Where can you buy Moulin Rouge outfits? Here are some links to get you started:

The Moulin Rouge was (and actually, still is) a cabaret in Paris, founded in 1889, and is best-known as the birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. The dance was originally introduced as a seductive dance by the Courtesans of the site, quickly became a staple of Parisian nightlife, and eventually inspired cabarets across Europe. The name “Moulin Rouge” literally translates to "red mill" in French.

We chose this theme for our first day, largely inspired by the movie’s vibrance and sheer mosaic of influences. The film’s director, Baz Luhrmann, wove together a tapestry of influences in the film, blending Moulin Rouges’ original style with a Bollywood twist.

Here are some ideas on the theme’s clothing, but no need to take anything too literally. Have fun with this theme. It can be as colorful and vibrant as you feel. A can-can dancer, a saloon girl, a courtesan, a burlesque performer, a showgirl, a samba dancer, a Duke, a Victorian chap... whatever your heart desires. These are merely suggestions.

Fabrics can be stripes, diamond patterns, satins, silks, laces and nets. Black lace fingerless gloves, sparkling choker necklaces, and feathered tiaras are just a few of the accessories. Black stockings, lace underskirts, garters, and frills… oh my!

For men, a black tuxedo with tails, a white bow tie, white gloves, a black top hat, and a cane... but again, have fun with this one. No need to be boxed in!

Vibrant. Playful. 1899 Paris.
